A copyright of the premier that portrayed Rachel Notley on the fairway of a golf course was put on the Brooks Golf Club at the Big Country Oilmen’s annual golf tournament last Friday. This was viewed as a way of acknowledging violence against women. However, the man behind this set up came up to defend his idea of political opposition and claimed he was not trying to be chauvinist. The tournament organizer, Ernie Bothi, came forth to apologize for his actions and he said that he was fully responsible for his actions and idea.
Ken Fleury who is a twitter user came forth and posted a photograph of the main objective on Saturday. He advised his twitter fans to show appreciation for the tournament’s decision. Many of the people who viewed his uploaded photo were angry. Members of the Premier Notley’s caucus were also angry and the photo was then removed. It is at this point that Fleury came forward to apologize. The Notley target was also criticized by Calgary-Varsity MLA Stephanie McLean. After just a few days of the murder of Jo Cox, who is a British MP, the NDP MLA came forward to question the supposed violence of the female politician.
According to Bothi, the economic depression in Brook has caused unemployment to a majority of people. The main objective of the post was due to dissatisfaction with the current government and was not aimed to demean women. Bothi defended himself saying that his post did not aim to cause violence against women. It was not meant to be sexist, and if their leader was male, he would also have put up his photo. A video that was recently removed on Facebook showed a golf cart crushing through Notley’s picture. The video is shown to have been uploaded on Saturday afternoon. Bothi said that he was disappointed that people did not approve of his actions and stated that democracy was not being practiced too well.
The Brook Golf Club state representatives came forth to say that they did not know that the target was put up during the private tournament.
