It Seems Like Donald Trump is Looking to Politicize Golf

It Seems Like Donald Trump is Looking to Politicize Golf

Trump National Doral Resort is hosting the renowned WGC- Cadillac Championship. Just like every other year, the PGA Tour could not resist making a stop at the resort.

Trump has always been known to make a grand entrance at the PGA’s Tourwith his arrival in a Trump emblazoned helicopter that makes everyone affixed on it. This has been how he amazes golf fans with his presence four years down the line.

This being the year of campaign, and Trump being a much sought out presidential candidate, he says he will only attend the event on Sunday. He further adds that he was not sure about repeating his history of ‘grand entrance in a helicopter’.

It looks like Trump is paving way for golf fans to focus on the golf pros. Or maybe it is a matter of security? Maybe it is because he has made some very bad comments about golf and immigrants on the campaign trail. Things politicians say to win might really amaze us!

The Tour has a long relationship with Doral Resort, trailing down to 53 years, but it said it will reassess its relationship with the resort since it boasts of accepting people of all kinds. This comes after Trump comments controversially about immigrants.

Last year the Tour issued a statement distancing themselves from Trump’s remarks on immigration alongside three other governing bodies in the US (PGA, LPGA and US Golf Association).

Trump has played fewer and fewer golf ever since the campaign got intriguing. Apparently a month ago at his West Palm Beach course was when he last played. I do not think we will be seeing much of him and golf soon.

Trump had this to say, “I love golf but when you finish making a speech in front of thousands of people, you most certainly are not in any mood to play golf… my primary focus at this moment is politics.”

Golf Fans Miss Tiger

Golf Fans Miss Tiger

The sport is missing Tiger since he underwent back surgery and it is feared that the poor show up at tournaments is due to this. Fans are asking “Where is Tiger?”

Although there are other accredited players like Jordan Spieth, Rory Mcllroy and Jason Day who have managed to draw hug audiences, the show up is still not that great.

A golf executive with IMG,Kennerly said, “Tiger still delivers that unconventional fan that golf needs. This was evident when Tiger hurt himself last year and could not play the Honda Classic, where the sales of tickets to the tournament softened a little bit.”

The question at hand is, “Can Tiger Woods be replaced?” Well, I will let you be the judge of that. However, it isn’t much a factor to argue on since Tiger is by far the greatest player of his generation.

Many have said that to them, without Tiger in the game, we are missing something. It has been rumored that Tiger might not return to the sport due to his setbacks with the back surgery. We have not seen him on the course for such a long time it seems like forever.

Tiger however dismissed these rumors on Wednesday after he released a video that shows him taking a full swing with a 9 iron on an indoor swing simulator. “Progressing nicely” was the caption that couldn’t have been missed by anyone with sound mind.

The swing appeared perfect and to many it consoled them with the idea that the golf star will soon be back to wow us.

The timing of Woods back to the game is still unknown. By him not being able to play, the sport has suffered a major blow in terms of dollars and cents. People still want to see and appreciate Tiger’s game. He is still an enormous asset to golf.

Moonah Links golf resort sold off to Chinese buyers by Murdoch’s nephew

Moonah Link’s golf resort which is located at the Mornington Peninsula is currently under the possession of Chinese investors. It was claimed that Paddy Handbury who is the cousin to one of the wealthiest guys in Victoria Rupert Murdoch put on price the glamorous result and it took no time before the Chinese buyers came knocking.

Reports have indicated that the resort which comprises of two golf courses as well as a luxurious hotel based in Fingal near Cape Schanck would cost the Chinese buyers a total of $A18.5 million.

However, Blake Ammit the chief executive officer of Handbury Group made the announcement of the sale of the resort but did not stipulate the actual price tag. He claimed that the new owners emanated from the Chinese consortium as well as the Chinese-Australian businessmen who run their businesses at the Peninsula International Group. However, the resort didn’t include the 18-hole course and resort of The Sands Torquay which still remains at the hands of Mr. Handbury.

Moonah Links has an extra certified parcel that has an empty land that could be used for its expansion. According to Ammit, the new owners would maintain the course but would incorporate the new land which would be a new expansion ground for the resort.

The consortium member have their stakes in the investing firm of Chinese-Australia a company that has its base in Australia and China and intensifies its growth by investing in big hotels and resorts. This is a positive indication to the firm which recently has been curbed with diminishing membership as well as slow-moving sales. This was according to Golf industry consultant Jeff Blunden. He claimed that it is good to see the existence of a willing buyers and sellers and believed that they would expand the golf course which is seen as the biggest golf asset based in Peninsula.

Moonah Links has been involved in various Golf tournaments most notably the Australia Opens that took place in 2003 and the resort has been branded as the “The Home of Australian Golf”. However not all professional golf tournaments are held there as NSW has been playing host too. Ammit claimed that the NSW has been the bitter rival competing to host these events but he believed that the new expansion of the resort would see more events held at Moonah Links.
