The investigation is being carried by the International Police commonly known as the Interpol. This features has seemingly draw controversies across the betting arena.

The case was referred to the International Police by the Australian Federal Police who had been given the directive to carry out the investigation on the bookmakers by the Australian Communication and Media Authority that is abbreviated as (ACMA). The Australian Federal Police have decided to refer the case to the Interpol as the websites in Australia were apparently all operated remotely by the bookmakers. The Police are now investigating another bookmaker William Hill whose website was operated locally unlike the other betting service providers.

The Authorities in Australia have investigations underway on claims that this bookmakers that are of British origin are acting in violation as they had breached the laws on the Gambling Act of 2001. This law prohibits the betting on five platform although it allows the betting on a by use of phone for betting. The feature was first launched by Ladbrokes Australia and William Hill in the month of April. Since its establishment it has brought controversy mirroring other live betting functions as it enables customers to be able to connect to team markets all through a microphone.

Other bookmakers in the UK have said that the mechanism they use is under the Gambling Act Provision of 2001, where the wagers by the customers are only processed if the customer approves of the selections they have made. ACMA responded to this by posting new guideline that the call feature did not involve other service providers that has customers using the normal telephone services which is a requirement according to the act.

In this month the ACMA proceeded to pass the investigation to the Federal Police with claims that it was a breach to the laws of the nation and they were the right force to handle this as the communication agency could not advise on the matter. With this the UK bookmaker will therefore be forced to drop the feature that it offers to its customers until the matter has been sorted out.

With the detail plan, Mullen further added that the program in place was planned to grow Ladbrokes as a whole in the Retail shops in the United Kingdom, through the Digital spectrum and also the Australian customer base. Through all this, his main goal was restoring Ladbrokes pride and passion on being at the heart of betting on sports in cultures.

He further added that this was an untapped resource and opportunity for the Bookmaker that would help the company grow to even higher scales. Through this Ladbroke would grow by 11% on the retail level alone not accounting for the online customer base. Bet365 Australia deploys controversial ‘click to call’ live betting mechanism

It is claimed in the 2001 Australian Interactive Gambling Act that ‘click to call’ service is against the law. However, this did not hinder bet365 based in Australia in initiating the service. This comes even it is clear that the service has brought in a lot of controversies and has prompted the federal police to undertake a thorough investigation on the matter.

Bet365 becomes the third Australian based betting company to activate the project after Willian Hill and Ladbroke Australia had earlier opened the service to their platforms in April. The three betting firms claim that the service falls within the jurisdiction of the 2001 Australian Interactive Gambling Act.

The so called ‘click to call’ service is designed in a manner that a gambler can activate his microphone where he can have a conversation with betting firm’s agents who would in turn place a bet with clients authorization and on his behalf.

The three UK betting companies belief that the service will act as a telephone conversation between a bettor and a betting agent from which they claim would not have violated in betting rules. However, national operators argue otherwise as they claim that the service which has been offering clients live betting as a breach of law.

This prompted the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) to review the rules and in end it handed the investigation matter to the federal police who would have the rights to conduct the investigation and get the real evidence.

Law breaking will have consequences always. This was what Ladbrokes Australia and William Hill ‘click to call’ betting services found themselves into after it was apparent that the two betting firms had violated gaming laws. This prompted the law makers to task The Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) to conduct through investigation on the two betting firms. The investigating company later would hand over the investigation to the federal Police.

Back in May, ACMA was tasked with conducting an investigation to the two betting firms with focus based on the mirror live/in-play betting an illegal way of betting that was against Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 (IGA 2001).

However, ACMA was forced to withdraw from the investigation and hand over the task to Federal police as it claimed that this was a ‘click to call service investigation and hence it would fall under local jurisdiction thus giving mandate to the Federal Police investigation. This made ACMA distance itself from the case and could not even give advices on the same.

The rules were very clear that anything that would involve irregularities of internet gambling that is based locally in Australia, the ACMA could not intervene. The company claimed that such crimes should be handled by local enforcements and in this case it would be the duty of local Federal Police to take up the role.

Another role that ACMA can play in this category is to report AFP any sort of local proscribed internet gambling.

‘Click to Call’ feature basically involves a situation where a client is in a position of communicate directly with operators in the other end of the wire through microphones that are connected in computers. However, this would only work when a client is live betting. In essence, once a client chooses his or her preferred teams to bet on, it would be now the duty of live market teams to complete the processing.

On the other hand, the two betting firms had earlier stipulated that the new feature was legal since it went along as per the provisions of the IGA 2001 policies.
