Garbine Muguruza beats Babos in Qatar Open

21- year old Garbine Muguruza, survived a tight second set against Timea Babos to reach her first time ever quarterfinal at the Qatar Total Open. It would be correct to say that Muguruza played one of her best tennis to beat Timea Babos, who is the current ace leader in 2016 6-2, 7-5.

During her on-court interview, Muguruza said, “I think the game was very tough especially the second set where we were fighting really hard. Timea started playing better than before and by the end of the match, we were both tight. Nonetheless, I am happy to Win!”

As much as Babos is the ace leader, Muguruza stole the show on serve by hitting 10 aces of her own and 31 winners against 22 unforced errors. On the other hand, Babos maintained her stat on the sheet with 21 winners and 21 errors but missed out on a chance of forcing a second set tie break by the end of the match, putting Muguruza on the edge in Doha.

“ Timea has a very strong serve. Therefore I had to focus on my serve as well as hers in order to win.”

Muguruza has played in Doha for the second time in her tennis career. She will be playing Andrea Petkovic to secure a spot in the semifinals.Petkovic won against Coco Vandeghe 6-3 in the first set and 6-4 in the second set.

“ I think the city is great. Doha is absolutely amazing, and I’m really excited to be here and playing.” She said.
