Tiger Woods is the greatest golf player of all time. However, his downfall can be measured in many ways, from his current ranking of being number 195thin the world to winning only five times in the memorial tournament after 85 shots.
One of the most evident downfall of Woods may have been seen on Tuesday from one of the youngest players in US open, Cole Hammer. The 15-year-old boy from Texas who said that the first time he watched golf on television, he saw Woods pumping his fist after pushing for a playoff that he was actually going to win at Torrey Pines.
The last time Woods won that Open is seven years ago, and even the sports books in Vegas cannot make the odds of him winning this one. In fact, the bettors who used to place money on him now look elsewhere.
Nonetheless, Fox will continue to show his every shot every Thursday. After all, the network invested a lot of money on the show when Woods was still making wins. Although people may have lost the confidence on Woods being a player who is expected to win every time, he still moves the needle. The only thing that has changed is watching him crashing instead of winning.
On Tuesday, he talked about making progress. He said he is looking forward to winning the 15th major of his career. Woods also reminded reporters that he is the champion of the three US open. However, that does not automatically uplift him to contender status.
It is unfortunate that Tiger Wood’s progress is no longer determined by getting closer to where he once was but how farther away from where he currently is.
After embarrassing himself with amateurish chips and wild play in the first two tournaments, Woods came to make a cut at the masters. However, his claim about being in contention on Sunday is not true. Woods was behind Jordan Spieth with 10 shots. His chances of catching up Jordan is as minimal as young hammer winning at the Chambers Bay
What’s even more surprising is that he has collectively finished 57 shots since his return from Layoff behind the winner in 3 tournaments he has played.
